Fleet Transportation
General Background for Vehicle Fleets
GreenTraks provides your business with a simple, clear and accurate online
platform to determine your fleet's carbon emission footprint. Our
GreenTraks certification program allows you to manage and report your direct
carbon footprint (GHG inventory accounting), as well as assist you in
determining ways to reduce your overall utility and fuel usage.
Instead of estimating your Carbon Footprint, GreenTraks will use actual
data from your fuel and utility bills to determine your overall GHG inventory,
linking your sources of carbon emissions together into a user friendly database.
This turns the difficult task of tracking your entire carbon emissions on your
own (often involving a multiple of man hours) into an accounting task performed
by GreenTraks for your company.
As part of GreenTraks, your fleet will also be connected with a growing
community that can help you make smart decisions to reduce your total carbon
emissions.
How Will GreenTraks Benefit My Fleet?
What is your Fleet's Ramp Rating?
1) Why MPG is being replaced by MPP for vehicles and RAMPP for
fleet?
In today's fleet environment, we are all working to track and plan for
reductions in energy consumption over time, which requires objective measurement
tools. But, in a mixed fleet environment, where multiple types of vehicles
are being integrated, including electric, hybrid, fuel cell, and alternative
fuels, a new standard of measurement was required to provide a meaningful or
comparative value between different fleets, periods of time, or levels of
performance within organizations.
The new standard, developed by the founder of Green Tracks and
incorporated into their reports is "Miles Per Pound" which
focuses the attention on the primary issue of concern, which is the measurement
in pounds of carbon dioxide emitted by fuel type. The measurement
calculates for each fuel type and vehicle how many pounds of CO2 the vehicle
emits for each mile traveled.
For example:
A gasoline powered vehicle getting 30 mpg emits 19.2 pounds of carbon
dioxide per gallon and achieves an MPP of 1.5625. (30/19.2=1.5625)
An electric vehicle with a range of 40 miles on a 5-kilowatt charge is
getting 8 MPK (miles per kilowatt). If each kilowatt creates a regional
average of .61 pounds of carbon dioxide, then each mile driven has an MPP of
13.115. (8/.61= 13.115)
This example clearly demonstrates an electric vehicle travels further than
a gasoline vehicle while emitting the same amount of carbon dioxide.
2) The R.A.M.P.P.Rating Defined
The RAMPP rating is a "Recorded Average Miles Per
Pound" of carbon that a fleet emits which works through Green Tracks, an
effective third-party benchmark for a fleet's energy consumption over time.
Regardless of the type of vehicle power selected by the fleet, the ambition is
to reduce the output of total carbon dioxide, which means maximizing the mileage
achieved for each pound of carbon dioxide emitted.
3) How the R.A.M.P.P. Rating is Calculated.
The Green Tracks carbon footprint report calculates the total pounds of
carbon dioxide emitted by the fleet and utilizes the total miles driven from the
Green Tracks consumption report to calculate the RAMPP Rating, or
Recorded Average Miles Per Pound, for the fleet. The goal of
increasing the RAMPP Rating remains effective through increases or
decreases in staff, mergers, outsourcing of services, department expansion,
business consolidation, and multiple types of changes in the character and
makeup of the fleets. Additional distinctions are available for Truck
RAMPP, Heavy Equipment RAMPP, Light Duty RAMPP, and Passenger Vehicle RAMPP
Ratings.
How will GreenTraks Benefit my Business?
By measuring and displaying your fleet's carbon dioxide emissions, you
show you are listening to your customers and you care about reducing your carbon
footprint.
Your fleet can use GreenTraks to:
- Display a GreenTraks Certified label.
The value on your GreenTraks certified label is based on math, science and
engineering calculations. To the extent you want to offset your carbon
footprint, with your actual data, we will determine your net CO2 footprint to be
displayed on all of your vehicles.
- Grow your fleet by
demonstrating your organization's aggressive environmental stewardship. You can
become part of an accepted, recognized and certified standard.
- Raise awareness within your fleet's
employees about the risks and opportunities presented by customers' concerns
about climate change.
- Increase your bottom line
by using the GreenTraks process to track and reduce your overall energy
consumption. This will not only save you money, but will help you with the
marketing and advertising of your product or service to your customer.
- Be an early adopter to the legislative and
regulatory requirements concerning carbon dioxide emissions.
When laws are passed and taxes implemented on CO2 emissions, you will already
have a program in place that tracks, manages, reduces, and offsets your CO2
emissions. Your company and project will be registered in the
U.S. Carbon Offsets Registry
where you will have a Project ID and password and a Company and/or Division ID
and password where your data is protected and will not be released without your approval.
- Demonstrate leadership and corporate
responsibility. Showing environmental stewardship is
important to your customers, your employees, your investors and your overall
public identity.
With the growing approval of many environmental activists, GreenTraks is
set to become a recognized international symbol of your fleet's commitment to
the environment.
